Roseisle Village Hall

Kitchen

Roseisle Village Hall has received a major kitchen refurbishment – transforming it from a room that was wet with condensation into a modern and warm space. The Gordon & Ena Baxter Foundation was delighted to be among supporters of this worthy project.

The hall plays a key role within its rural community, hosting regularly groups from exercise classes to youth groups and special events. However, the former uninsulated kitchen was not only too cold, but volunteers regularly found the crockery and glassware to be wet due to the damp. Not only that, but the floor could be really slippery.

Now complete, the work has not only improved the amenity but will enable users to heat the multi-use space more economically. It has been designed with accessibility in mind and also houses a large store room for hall equipment.

The Gordon & Ena Baxter Foundation made a £10,000 towards the £50,000 project, which was completed thanks to a lot of fundraising and a herculean final push from local folk. To keep costs down, the hall trustees appealed to the community for help... and help came.

Trustee Joany Dominy said the old floor and a chimney breast were removed and skip hire was avoided by local residents making tip runs with their trailers.  Many hands packed and unpacked the entire contents of the kitchen, and one resident kindly stored everything in her garage.

That community spirit enabled the project to be completed on time and within budget. The hall has since played host to a local wedding, as well as Guide and Brownie events, family parties and its usual timetable of regular community groups.

The old kitchen was not insulated and was cold and expensive to heat. It ran with condensation and was not a welcoming space to use. In contrast, our new kitchen is a safe, clean and warm space which can be used, both for catering hall events, and as a cosy and smaller meeting space than the main hall. Our Hall's main aim is to enhance the lives and wellbeing of our community and the funding from The Foundation has helped to ensure that events at our hall can continue to do this, well into the future.
