Loth Burn Footbridge
Walkers taking on the long-distance John O’ Groats Trail are more likely to keep their boots dry thanks to the efforts of a local charity.
The Association of Northern Trails works to develop the 145-mile route, which starts in Inverness and follows the East coast North.
Up until now, walkers have had to pick their way across the Loth Burn, which is found on the stretch between Brora and Helmsdale. In times of spate, a lengthy detour was required.
Now, a 22- metre single span structure has been put in place to benefit users - from locals enjoying a shorter walk along the coast to those taking on the lengthy challenge.
The Gordon & Ena Baxter Foundation made a £15,000 award towards this £90,000 project and is delighted that the structure is now being put to good use.
Thank you for contributing to the project, this truly wouldn't have been possible without our funders. Until recently it really was just a distant dream, but we are so delighted that it is now reality and ready for the walking season. Trail walkers will truly be delighted to no longer have to get their feet wet!
