The Friends of Blairs Loch

Field Study Centre

The Stable Classroom is an outdoor learning hub situated on the shores of Blair's Loch, which lies just to the south of Forres. Gordon Baxter was a keen angler and passionate about encouraging youth fishing, so trustees considered this a particularly appropriate project to support with a £10,000 award towards the construction of the field study centre.

Since 2017, The Friends of the Loch have been working to reopen the water at Loch of Blairs for trout fishing, extending the footpath network around the loch and refurbishing and redeveloping the Boat House and Stable Classroom. The field study centre and other facilities are now used by a wide variety of people – from Scouts and schools to writing classes and artists.

“We went to the Gordon & Ena Baxter Foundation for support because we wanted to create something special for our community, and we are delighted to say we have achieved that. We have users for both recreation and education, with groups of all ages and physical ability, visiting Loch of Blairs and taking away wonderful memories.”
