Examples of how support from the Baxter Family Charity has made a difference.
Find out more about the organisations benefiting from the support of The Gordon & Ena Baxter Foundation and the Baxters Giving Programme and the positive impact of their contributions within our communities.
The Famous Fochaberians Garden, nestled on the banks of the River Spey in the village of Fochabers, was created by Gordon Baxter to celebrate the contribution of 21 Famous Fochaberians. It was designed in recognition of their significant achievement or distinction. Like-minded individuals who provided financial support for the creation of the gardens at that time were recognised by way of a series of stones. This public garden - located as it is to provide wonderful views of the river - serves as a place for the enjoyment and leisure of residents and visitors to the village. It opened in 2002 and is maintained by The Gordon & Ena Baxter Foundation on Crown Estate land.
The Foundation takes pride in ensuring the gardens remain close to Gordon Baxter’s vision and are grateful to the local community for its support. We are indebted to the Fochabers Men’s Shed and Horticultural students from Moray College UHI for their considerable contributions.
We hope you enjoy a visit to these special gardens, which are closed to any new memorial or planting.
The Garden is situated in a beautiful location where people can come and learn about our forefathers and sit and contemplate the timeless magnificence of the River Spey beyond. This is a realisation of a dream for me. My family have been resident in our village for all of these 250 years. With the kind assistance of a like-minded group of people, we have tried to put something back into the community by recognising in a special way the debt that the present-day people of the village owe to their forebears.
